Data Governance

Holiday data sources and methodology

The site uses a documented source hierarchy, separates nationwide and regional scope, and keeps planning claims narrower than employment or legal entitlements.

Source Priority

Which source controls a calendar

When sources conflict, the most specific linked official publication controls the page. The shared dataset remains a planning fallback for countries without a maintained override.

Priority 1

Official annual schedule

A government gazette, cabinet notice or official annual calendar is used for confirmed dates, continuous breaks and adjusted workdays.

Priority 2

Official policy guidance

Government or labour-authority guidance explains federal, regional, substitute-day and employee-entitlement boundaries.

Priority 3

Nager.Date dataset

Nager.Date provides the consistent baseline used for worldwide comparisons and calendars without a maintained official override.

Always

Visible limitations

Pages distinguish national from regional scope and tell users to confirm time-sensitive arrangements with the linked authority.

Official References

Government and labour-authority sources

These references currently support official schedules or country-specific policy notes. A source can cover both an annual calendar and general observance rules.

Counting Rules

Nationwide comparison method

Worldwide and regional comparisons count distinct dates marked nationwide. Regional or county-specific records are excluded, and two holiday names on the same date count once.

Duration Rules

Dates, periods and adjusted workdays

A duration is shown only when the source defines a continuous break. The calendar end date is exclusive in ICS files. Adjusted workdays are listed separately and are not holidays.

Publication Process

How updates and corrections work

When is the data regenerated?

Structured calendars are regenerated when source data or official overrides change. Sitemap last-modified dates and page source notes are updated with the release.

How are uncertain dates handled?

Dates that depend on later government announcements or local observation must be treated as planning references until the responsible authority confirms them.

What happens when a source changes?

The official source is reviewed, structured records are updated, and data, HTML, ICS, CSV and sitemap regression checks run before deployment.
